Clashes renew between police and herders in Sennar

Clashes have renewed between police and nomad herders in Kurkari in Sudan’s Sennar state.

The herders who returned from South Sudan to resettle in Sudan in recent years have been seeking land rights.

Sources told Radio Tamazuj that heavy clashes between the nomad herders and the police renewed on Tuesday, pointing out that the two sides used heavy guns resulting in the killing of four people from the herders' side and unconfirmed number from the police side

They reported hearing heavy gunshots and explosions in the villages near the area.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Ahmed Aburuf, chief of the Rufaa al Hawa nomads told Radio Tamazuj a day before the clashes erupted again that his tribe will not enter any clashes with the police.

“We are not against the government armed force and cannot resist them. They are the ones who brought the police and the ones who should take the responsibility. The MP Salah Ahmed should bear the responsibility,” said Aburuf.
