Clashes continue in Two Areas, govt accused of displacing civilians

Fighting between Sudan’s army and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North rebels is continuing on various fronts in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states, a rebel official said.

SPLA-N spokesperson Arno Ngutulu Lodi told Radio Tamazuj that their forces managed to defeat the government forces in Al Azraq area in South Kordofan and they captured Mafu area in Blue Nile.

He noted that the SPLA-N forces seized 55 Land Cruiser vehicles and five tanks in Mafu area. Arnu added that the recent fighting caused massive displacement of many residents from their areas, besides the destruction of homes, facilities and schools in areas where fighting took place in the last few days.

“The areas of Al Azraq, Margez, Karkraya, Al Hibeil and Agab were targeted by the government forces, so the local population fled those areas,” he said.

The SPLA-North spokesperson accused the Sudanese government of forcibly displacing civilians from the Nuba Mountains area. Separately, local sources confirmed that military intelligence agents arrested three members of the Arab Baath Socialist Party in Kadugli town on Tuesday morning.

A member of the party said the arrests came after the SPLA-North shelled Kadugli town recently, saying they are being accused of spying for the rebels.
