Clash near Upper Nile-Unity State border

Pariang Commissioner Monylang Manyiel says there was fighting yesterday near the county's eastern border with Upper Nile State, accusing rebels of attacking a village there.

He told Radio Tamazuj today that SPLA forces clashed with rebels at Wunkur Payam, located in Pariang County of Unity State near the border with Panyikang County of Upper Nile State.

“The attack happened in one of our payams of Pariang County called Wunkur. It is on the eastern side of the county... Our force there repulsed an attack yesterday at 11:00 from the rebels of Johnson Olony,” said Monylang.

He claimed that there were only two wounded on the SPLA side and no dead but he did not know the numbers on the rebel side.

“The rebels were coming from the direction of Tunja, attacking Wunkur Payam,” he said. “We are expecting another attack from the direction of Tunja. Now the SPLA Division 4 are ready to meet their attack.”
