South Sudan government and rebel forces clashed at Tonga in western Upper Nile state Monday evening, the two sides said.
Armed opposition spokesperson William Gatjiath Deng accused government troops of using barges to attack their positions. He said the opposition fought in self defense and sunk some of the boats while capturing military equipments.
An SPLA source confirmed the clash but blamed the rebels for instigating the fighting. The source did not have information on loss of military equipments or sinking of the boats.
