Civilians injured during live shooting exercise at Raja military base

At least four civilians have been injured at Barbara residential area in Raja town during a live firing exercise at a military base over the past two days, multiple sources said.

The sources told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that four people sustained injuries during a night-time live firing exercise at a military base toward the western part of the town.

They further said the wounded civilians were taken to hospital for treatment. The same sources pointed out that the incident caused fear and panic among local residents, saying shops remained closed in the town on Monday.

For his part, Omar Ishaq, mayor of Raja town, admitted that there were mistakes during the firing exercise at the military base, saying a bomb fell into one of the residential areas during the live firing exercise. He pointed out that a woman was accidentally wounded in the area.

Omar claimed that members of the armed opposition group entered the town and started shooting in coincidence with the government’s firing exercise.

However, the municipal official said that there were no clashes between the two forces in the town. He claimed that the situation returned to normal.
