The delegation of the armed group returned yesterday evening after consultations at their headquarters in Pagak. SPLM-IO’s advance team is led by Taban Deng, former governor of Unity State and the rebels’ chief negotiator during the last two years of war.

CEPO has also appreciated the government for ensuring safe travel of the delegation and agreeing to “cater for the SPLM-IO team accommodation expenses in Juba”

Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO, said in a press release that the partners to the peace agreement “have to do all possible options for forming the transitional government of national unity urgently within the spirit of the peace agreement. The delay for not having transitional government of national unity timely is impacting negatively on the common citizens in terms of the cost of living.”

“Whatever outstanding issues that are on the road for the formation of the transitional government of national unity must be resolve timely. The timely and effective implementation of the peace agreement is priority and paramount. The spirit observed during the sharing of the ministries of the government of national unity should be applied for forming the transitional government of national unity per the provisions of the peace agreement. Citizens want peace now,” said Yakani.
