Civil society groups left in dilemma, demand urgent briefing on Kampala meeting

Delegates of South Sudan’s civil society organizations at the peace talks in Khartoum have requested to be “fully” briefed by the Sudan government on the peace talks held in Kampala on Saturday.

Delegates of South Sudan’s civil society organizations at the peace talks in Khartoum have requested to be “fully” briefed by the Sudan government on the peace talks held in Kampala on Saturday.

Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), told Radio Tamazuj this evening that they want the Sudanese peace facilitators to brief the civil society delegates on the outcomes of the Uganda meeting.

“We are stakeholders of the peace process and we should be informed about the outcomes of the Uganda meeting officially,” he said.

“Since morning of today we are in dilemma over the peace talks venue. We saw some politicians smiling while others are absolutely worried. We are told that Uganda has offered a new proposal on power sharing that was agreed upon. But we have not received any official briefing from Sudan facilitators or official copies on outcomes of the Uganda meeting,” he explained.

The leading civil society activist said rumors on social media are taking the lead in providing information on the recent meeting in Uganda.

Yakani urged the South Sudan warring parties to make compromises to end the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.
