The Community Empowerment for Progress Organiation (CEPO) has announced today the launching of public debates on the new IGAD peace proposal in collaboration with the University of Juba.
The civil society organization said that it planned to help disseminate the “Proposed Compromise Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan,” which IGAD made available to the public yesterday.
In a statement, IGAD said it would aim to spread awareness of the new proposal through community briefings and the media, besides holding publict debate.
“CEPO in collaboration with the University of Juba will hold a public debate as soon as possible with members of the academia, civil society, women groups and students with the aim of analyzing the proposed peace agreement,” reads the statement.
However, CEPO expressed some reservations about the proposal saying it had a “lack of clarity and strong stance on justice and accountability.” The activist group further said it was “alarmed” at the failure of the African Union to release its Inquiry report.
