Civil servants in Yei River County are threatening to strike if the government fails to give them three months of unpaid salaries, according to the head of the civil servants trade union.

Workers are suffering without pay, Scopas Lasuba, the head of the workers trade union said in an interview.

“Many of the civil servants phoned me and asked should they do about the salary pay,” Lasuba said. “I call on the government to think about the people’s salaries. In this case the civil servants will sit down to look for other options to feed their children”

Three years ago, civil servants in Yei town took the streets protesting against their delayed salary pay from 2009.

Efforts to reach the state ministry of labour and public service for comments were not successful.
