The salaries for civil servants in South Sudan’s Yei River State have not been paid for at least three months, Radio Tamazuj has learned.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj last week, a health worker who preferred anonymity said they are demanding salaries for three months.

“We have not been paid for the last three months and currently life has become too difficult for us to feed our families, pay school fees and access to other household needs,” said the health worker.

“We are reminding the state and national governments to do something before the situation goes out of hand,” she added.

Speaking during the 'Back to Learning' campaign last Friday, the Director General of Education in the state, Amos Longa confirmed that all teachers have not received their three months salary since the beginning of this year.

He further said the delayed salaries has forced teachers to abandon the profession and work for organizations or take refuge due to unbearable conditions.
