Civic education workshop concludes in Rumbek

More than 150 students from various secondary schools in Rumbek of Lakes State received civic education and safety snd security training last week.

More than 150 students from various secondary schools in Rumbek of Lakes State received civic education and safety snd security training last week.

The seven-day training was organized by Rumbek Youth Sports Association (RYSA) supported by Norwegian People's Aid (NPA).

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the Executive Director of RYSA, Abbas Mayek Mayen said the workshop targeted 180 students from five secondary schools in Rumbek Town. 

Mayek said they distributed T-shirts, biscuits, and other items to motivate and encourage candidates planning to sit their final secondary school examinations later in the month. 

Mary Akoi Malei, a student in Rumbek Secondary School said that the training has enlightened them on past and present happenings in the communities as well as the importance of peaceful coexistence.

Martin Akec Long, a candidate in Rumbek National Secondary School said the training focused on peacebuilding. 

"Without peace, there is no development, no good health care system, better education, and security. Peace is important," Akec said. 

He added that it is eve everyone’s responsibility to disseminate peace and reconciliation in the community, emphasizing the importance of education in peace processes.
