Citizens of the An-Nahud town in the recently formed West Kordofan state are requesting governor Ahmed Khamis to make it the province’s second capital after Al-Fula.
A member of the North Kordofan Legislative Assembly, Jamal Mohamed, echoed the citizens’ request suggesting An-Nahud should have three ministries.
He further suggested the establishment of a Legislative Assembly that would rotate in chairing the meetings of the state’s Council of Ministers. Mohamed is also demanding the construction of a road connecting Al-Fula and An-Nahud.
Mohamed was speaking during the reception ceremony of the governor of West Kordofan last week. He also said that “Western localities of the West Kordofan state welcome the restoration of the province but its people have a package of legitimate demands.”
The people of An-Nahud are calling upon the First Vice-President of Sudan, Ali Osman Taha, to “fulfill his promise” and establish the Northern Sector Development Fund in West Kordofan.
They have also asked the government to confirm figures from the latest census so that decisions about wealth sharing, allocation of resources, and basic services’ delivery can be made.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Hamar tribal leader Abdel Gadir Moneim Mansour affirmed that the people of West Kordofan will “stand firm” until their demands are met.
