Citizens threaten to boycott parliamentary elections in East Darfur

Citizens in Adila and Abu Karinka Localities are threatening to boycott parliamentary elections in Sudan’s East Darfur State owing to persisting tribal conflict, a local source said.

The area has witnessed a tribal feud between the Rizeigat and Ma’alia tribes, prompting the Ma’alia tribe in Adila and Abu Karinka to demand their areas be annexed to North Darfur.

Yusuf Ali Hamid, a leading figure in the area, told Radio Tamazuj that many citizens have decided to boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections in the state.

He accused the local authorities of failing to resolve the trial feud between the two tribes in the area.
