Citizens of Gezira Aba in Sudan’s White Nile state have called on the presidency to intervene to help stop pollution that they say is caused by Assalaia sugar factory.
They called on the presidency to push for the implementation of a high court order dated 17 June for the stopping of industrial drain in al Jassir area in White Nile.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Sheikh Abdu Rahaman al Sidig Idris, director of human rights office and head of the victims of the Assalaia factory in White Nile called for the presidency to immediately intervene to implement the court order issued in June and compensate the citizens who have been affected by pollution all these years.
He pointed that they met with the director of the factory recently but nothing has been implemented in regard to the court order to stop the pollution in the area.
