Citizens of Aweil town in Northern Bahr el Ghazal contributed 206 sacks of sorghum to the SPLA Division 3 at its Wunyiik headquarters on Friday.
Wunyiik is near the disputed border with Darfur, an area known as ‘Mile 14’.
The state Council of Ministers passed a resolution last year which called on all ministers to offer 2 sacks of sorghum. Likewise, civil servants were asked to provide one sack and cattle-keepers were asked to contribute a cow to assist the SPLA in the state who are stationed along the Sudanese border.
Aweil town mayor, Debek Atak Longar said that, they citizens of Aweil town have contributed 206 sacks of sorghum which was presented to the SPLA logistics at the area headquarters.
“206 sacks of Dura from Aweil Town but it is for all level of state counties, payams and bomas to offer contributions to the SPLA,” called Longar.
Many South Sudanese citizens and diaspora members have contributed food, medicine and money to the SPLA in bordering areas since the border conflict with Sudan ignited in April 2012. The two nations have not been able to reach an agreement on border demarcation or demilitarization since independence in July 2011, in spite of ongoing peace talks.
