Citizens in Kondeko Boma of Yei River County in Central Equatoria State have complained that they lack clean water in the area.

Citizens in Kondeko Boma of Yei River County in Central Equatoria State have complained that they lack clean water in the area.

Charity Dudu, a local woman leader in the Boma, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that residents of the area are finding it difficult to access clean drinking water.

“The issue of water in the area is a challenge, our boreholes are not enough and most of the boreholes and wells have broken down and during the dry season like this, getting water is a big task. Women are suffering in search of water. If there are NGOs outside there, let them come and help the women in Kondeko Boma,” Dudu said.

Johnson Luate Abdalla, the executive chief of Kondeko Boma, said over 10,000 residents in the area are in dire need of clean drinking water.

“To be open, there are 10,740,000 people in the Boma and my message is that water is a big challenge and we are not happy and we are calling on the government and NGOs to come and help us because many returnees and IDPs are arriving in the Boma on daily basis to settle in the community and they also need tents to re-settle,” chief Luate explained.

Officials at the directorate of water and irrigation in Yei River County were not available for comment.
