Hundreds of citizens living in displaced camps under the UN camps in Juba demonstrated peaceful today morning to call for an end to the country's devastating war.
Hundreds of South Sudanese displaced people carrying posters and signs calling for peace, expressed their anger at a conflict now entering its fifth year.
"We, the women of South Sudan in the UN camps, we need peace in our country because we are suffering. We also demand that Dr. Riek Machar should be released unconditionally. This war has been going on for a long time," Vivian Oraj, a demonstrator inside the camp told Radio Tamazuj.
Jeremiah Gai Ruai, a displaced man, said they are demonstrating peacefully to call for peace as talks start today in Addis Ababa.
He called on the international community to bring about peace and stability in South Sudan, while demanding for release of exiled rebel leader Riek Machar to participate in the peace talks.
James Kuol, another camp resident, said:” the people of South Sudan want peace, so we are calling on our leaders to make peace.”
Kuol further said South Sudan will not realize peace without Machar’s release from his forced detention in South Africa.” Peace can come to South Sudan through President Salva Kiir and Riek Machar,” he said.
