Citizens in Eastern Equatoria complain of food insecurity

Citizens in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria have complained of food insecurity due to failure of the agricultural season this year.

Many citizens in Ikotos, Budi and Magwi said they are facing hunger, warning of a humanitarian crisis.

James Oyet, a youth leader in Magwi County told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday the citizens are complaining of food shortage of food.

He added that some people began to cut trees and sell them to traders in order to get money to buy some food which is insufficient for their families.

Awet blamed the issue on the failure of agricultural season this year.

The former Eastern Equatoria Minister of Agriculture Clement Laku warned last year that more than 300,000 people in Budi, Ikotos and other places in his state are facing hunger and need emergency food assistance.
