Residents sheltering inside the UN camp in Bentiu town this morning demonstrated peacefully in support of the release of opposition leader Riek Machar from house arrest in South Africa.
Yohannes Gatnyang, leader of the Bentiu camp, told Radio Tamazuj two bulls will be slaughtered today in celebration of the release of the country’s opposition leader Riek Machar.
The camp leader said they are currently demonstrating to support the planned face-to-face meeting between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar.
“People here are very happy about the release of Dr. Machar and they say peace is coming soon. We have slaughtered” he said.
Gatnyang expressed hope that the planned face-to-face meeting between the two leaders will resolve all outstanding issues between the warring parties.
