Citizens fleeing Mayom and Bentiu arrive in Wau

Wau town of Western Bahr El Ghazal state on Saturday received 2,301 internally displaced persons from Mayom and Bentiu in Unity state following recent clashes in the contested area, according to a city official.

Wau Deputy Mayor Anthony Charles Mberende said that they received 617 households with women and children the majority, saying it is the largest number the state ever received since the crisis started in December, Voice of Hope reported.

The deputy mayor appealed to humanitarian agencies to support the new arrivals who are facing a “horrible situation” without adequate food, shelter, water and medical services.

He said the government resettled the IDPs at Abunybuny area on the eastern bank.
