Hundreds of citizens have fled their homes and are currently taking refuge in schools in Yambio town in South Sudan’s Gbudue State after clashes between government troops and opposition fighters in villages near the town on Tuesday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Jackson Ezekiel, Minister of Local Government, said that a large number of local residents fled to Yambio town due to fighting in neighbourhoods around Yambio town.
He pointed out that they accommodated the conflict-displaced families in schools and that humanitarian organizations in the area started to register them.
Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach rebel officials in the area to comment on the matter.
