Several citizens in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan, expressed their serious concerns about the soaring prices of essential commodities at the city’s market since two weeks, amid complaints about low salaries across the state.
Shop owners attribute the problem to the war in South Kordofan state as poor road connecting the Kadugli with El Obeid town as well as the latest economic measures taken by the national government lifting fuel subsides.
A large sack (approximately 100kg) of sorghum has risen to SDG600 ($105) and a pound of sugar now costs SDG6 ($10.50).
Residents of the Kadugli have written phrases on the walls of government institutions condemning government policies.
