Citizens complain of price hikes at Um Dafug market, South Darfur

Citizens in Um Dafug Town in South Darfur are complaining about price hikes of consumer commodities at the market.

A large number of local residents told Radio Tamazuj that they do not know how to live with the sky-rocketing prices of fuel and commodities while the salaries of the civil servants are low.

A gallon of petrol has risen from SDG110 to SDG220 ($38.50), a gallon of diesel from SDG85 to SDG170 ($30), while the price for a piece of soap has risen from SDG2 to SDG5 ($0.90), the sources said.

A shop owner, who preferred anonymity, attributed the prices hikes to the lifting of fuel subsidies by the National Government in Khartoum.

The locality of Um Dafug is bordering the Central African Republic and depends economically on border trade.
