Citizens of Bor town celebrate 6th independence anniversary

Citizens in Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei state on Sunday celebrated the sixth independence anniversary at Freedom Square in spite of cancellation of the celebration by the national government in Juba.

Citizens in Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei state on Sunday celebrated the sixth independence anniversary at Freedom Square in spite of cancellation of the celebration by the national government in Juba.

Addressing a crowd of citizens in Bor, the Acting Governor of Jonglei state, Agot Alier Leek said insecurity remains a threat in the state, citing child abductions and attacks on civilians in the state.

Alier called on the government in Juba to address issues pertaining insecurity which he said hinder development. He urged the people of Jonglei state to remain calm and united for the sake of peace and stability in the state.

The state official appealed to the government of South Sudan to ensure safety and freedom of movement among its citizens. He encouraged the people of Bor town to embark on agricultural activities to fight food insecurity.
