Citchok peace conference calls for amendments of Taxation Act

Youth, women and elderly people in Citchok County of Gok state calls on the Governor of Gok state Madhang Majok Meen to initiate the amendment of Taxation Act 2016 which imposes 1000 SSP to be paid per a tax payer. Santino Bol Chinor, the representative of Youth said that it is too heavy for a person to pay 1000 SSP, three tins of durra and three tins of groundnuts. Bol calls on the Speaker of Gok state Assembly Madam Veronica Philip Dak and her members to look at the status of the economic situation of the state. Cueibet County was promoted as State. We need to revise ourselves as government and citizens of the state on how we can promote our new state “Bol said”.

Santino proposes 250 SSP to be paid by a tax payer. The representative of Chief, Mador Koch told Governor to accept the calls of his people. Mador added that some chiefs have agreed to resign from their positions if Gok state governor continues imposing all those taxes on venerable people. While, women representative, Tereza Nyibol Mading concur with the speakers on the reduction of 1000 SSP to 250 SSP per a tax payer. Tereza added that the SPLM led government has been calling that the creation of more states in the country is the SPLM vision of taking services closer to the people, where are the services now “she asked”. On his part, Gok state Governor, Madhang Majok Meen told the participants that the conference was meant for peace and reconciliation of the state citizens, but it has been turned into a different thing. Madhang pointed out that he is not ready to comment more on unplanned agenda. Governor Madhang become annoyed and closes the meeting immediately without any resolutions being reached.

Last year, Gok State Legislative Assembly passed the proposed Taxation Bill as an Act 2016.
