The South Sudan Council of Churches Women’s Programme marched on Saturday in Juba for peace in the country.
They began their demonstration at Sirikat residential area about three kilometers from Juba town as part of a campaign to bring peace messages from inside churches to the public streets.
“We the women in South Sudan churches have been praying every month for peace,” said national coordinator of the churches’ women’s programme Agnes Wasuk. “For the last two months we have changed the methodology of prayer. We used to pray in the churches but this time we are coming out so that other people benefit and know the meaning of this prayer.”
Wasuk said South Sudanese are suffering because of this war.
“We voted freedom not for slavery. This pain is making us slaves again. It is making us not to see what resources we have. So we want to pray to God so that peace prevails so that South Sudanese people enjoy the freedom and the independence that have been fighting for.”
She said the ongoing war is senseless and that South Sudan’s citizens should let go of the past and stop the spirit of revenge.
