The Catholic Diocese of Wau has called on the state government to open the humanitarian corridor for the war-affected people of Besselia and Baggari Counties in Wau State.

Fr. Moses Peter Joseph told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the Church and other humanitarian partners are ready to aid assistance to the affected communities in the two areas but due to insecurity along the road, they are not able to provide aid assistance.

The religious leader suggested that the government should deploy forces along the way to provide security for any humanitarian convoy to reach the people.

Thousands of civilians are in dire humanitarian situation in both Besselia and Baggari Counties which have been a battlefield between government and opposition forces. Dozens have reportedly died of hunger.
