A bishop who is leading a peace and reconciliation commitee for Wonduruba in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria state said seven people were killed by SPLA soldiers there last week.
Radio Tamazuj earlier reported that five people were killed when they went to find food in the village which has seen numerous clashes in recent months between SPLA and local armed groups.
Bishop Paul Yogusuk said the situation is not stable and called on the Central Equatoria state government and SPLA to implement the Wonduruba peace deal which was signed between the army and the local community last year.
Yogusuk appealed to the authorities to send organized forces to the area to provide security so that people who fled can safely return to their homes.
The church leader said more than 17,000 people have fled to Lainya County to escape insecurity and have gone the last seven days without food, according to a report he received from the Wonduruba director.
