British special envoy to Sudan and South Sudan Chris Trott has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to South Sudan.

British special envoy to Sudan and South Sudan Chris Trott has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to South Sudan.

Trott succeeds Ms Alison Blackburne.

The Foreign Office said in a statement on Tuesday that Mr Trott will take office in May 2019.

The top British diplomat played a key role during talks to revive South Sudan’s failed 2015 peace pact and end the country’s civil war.

He was appointed as a special envoy to Sudan and South Sudan and Head of Joint FCO/ Department for International Development (DFID) Sudan Unit in 2016.

In 2007, Mr Trott was appointed as Ambassador to Senegal, Mali, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau.

He also served as British High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Nauru until July 2016.
