At least 20 people have died in a cholera outbreak spreading within Juba city and the total number of people who have caught the disease has reached at least 268, according to a healthcare source.
These figures are current to 25 June.
The source said that the largest number of cases so far come from the following neighborhoods: UN House Protection of Civilians site, New Site, Gumbo, Khor William, Mangaten, Gudele 1 and Munuki.
Several suspected cholera cases are also reported in nearby towns but definitive testing results are not announced to confirm that these cases are indeed cholera.
Health authorities have advised citizens to avoid drinking untreated water, avoid eating undercooked food, and wash hands before eating and after using the latrine.
Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal disease. Cholera is a spread through eating food or drinking water contaminated with faeces. Symptoms appear quickly, from two hours to five days after ingestion.
