At least 1, 120 displaced people have so far died of cholera in several areas within the rebel-controlled 'Pow State', located in what is otherwise known as Pangak State from February until April, a senior opposition official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj in an interview on Wednesday, Peter Pouk Koang, Deputy Governor of Pow State, said the 1,120 people died of cholera in Ayod South, Ayod North, Pagil, Mogok, Wau, Donydeng, Pajieth and Kuachdeng areas, amid absence of humanitarian organizations in the area.
Separately, the rebel-appointed deputy governor said that hundreds of people died of hunger in Ayod north and Ayod South, Wau, Kuachdeng, Bilawich and other areas in the state.
He pointed out that a large number of people were displaced during clashes between government troops and opposition fighters since February.
