About eight cases of cholera have been recorded in Roseires Locality in Sudan’s Blue Nile State on Monday, a laboratory technician said.

Suleiman Ibrahim, a laboratory technician at Roseires Hospital, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that so far, eight patients with cholera symptoms have been admitted to the health facility.

 “I can confirm that eight cases of cholera have been reported in Roseires Locality,” he said.

Suleiman has warned of a sharp increase in cholera cases in the locality.

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal disease. It is an infectious disease that causes severe watery diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration and even death if untreated. Cholera is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae.

Torrential rains hitting Sudan in the last four weeks have killed more than 60 people, with hundreds of thousands forced to leave their homes.
