A team of Chinese medical experts arrived in Lake state capital, Rumbek on Wednesday to treat patients at the Kiir Mayardit Women’s Hospital.
Dr Ding Zhen, the Chinese medical team leader, told Radio Tamazuj that they will start providing medical services at the health facility for three days.
“We will be here for three days to provide medical services, and on 26th we will shift from Kiir Mayardit Women’s Hospital to Rumbek State Hospital to continue another day of medical services,” Ding Zhen said.
“Do you know the medicines we brought here are from China? Covid-19 and shipment of medicines make it very difficult to bring medicines from China to South Sudan. So the lack of medicines is the problem we are facing here in South Sudan,” he added.
For his part, Dr Monyde Ater Kuaar, a medical director at the Kiir Mayardit Women’s Hospital, confirmed that the Chinese medical team is in Lakes State to provide medical services.
“We ask for cost-sharing from those who want to see a doctor and they will pay 200 South Sudanese Pounds only for laboratory and digital X-rays. But there is no money to pay for the Chinese drugs which have been brought by the Chinese medical team,” he explained.
Zechariah Malual, a patient from Rumbek, urged the people of South Sudan to embrace peace in order to allow service delivery in the country.
“I am one of the patients; I have fractures on my both left and right hands, so I came to receive health services. My message to South Sudanese is that let us embrace peace because these medical services are dividends of peace,” he said.
