Chinese Ambassador Ma Qiang has donated 1 million USD worth of logistic supplies to the Joint Monitoring Commission, he said at a press conference in Juba after signing a memorandum with JMEC Chairman and formrer Botswana President Festus Mogae.

Speaking on Tuesday after the handover ceremony, Ambassador Qiang said the donation came after a request by the the government of South Sudan last year to facilitate the transitional security arrangements of the country’s Augus 2015 peace deal.

The supplies include 20 prefab houses, 1080 military tents, 10,000 boxes of instant food, 4300 blankets, 2000 mosquito nets, 50 diesel generators, 500 electric fans, and 500 flashlights.

“We hope that JMCC could take away these supplies from UNMISS compound in Tomping and make good use of it as soon as possible,” he said.

“We always honor our commitments. After 4 months of procurement and sea transportation, this batch of supplies arrived in Juba in early April. I am very glad to see that through the coordination of JMEC and JMCC, a distribution plan of these materials has been made,” Ambassador Qiang said.

It is expected that JMEC will hand over some of these supplies to army forces at cantonment sites in various parts of the country in order to encourage the cantonment process.
