Child dies after a motorcycle accident in Yambio

A 4-year-old child succumbed to injuries sustained after a motorcycle accident on Monday in Yambio County of Western Equatoria State.

A 4-year-old child succumbed to injuries sustained after a motorcycle accident on Monday in Yambio County of Western Equatoria State.

The state’s acting director of traffic police, Col. Morris Bakura, told journalists that a mother and her child were being carried on a motorcycle when the rider lost control leading to an accident at 8 am on the Makpandu-Yambio road.

“There was a woman and her child coming from the refugee camp in Makpandu but the motorbike lost control and they fell and the child later died in the hospital,” he said. The person who was riding is called Samuel Ukele and he lost control due to speeding. He has been detained by the police.”

“The mother of the deceased child was freed to open a case against the rider,” he added.

Col. Bakura cautioned motorists to be careful and reduce speed in crowded areas like towns and trading centers and warned vehicle owners against surrendering them to minors.

This is the second death by accident recorded in Yambio town this year.
