Community leaders who attended a three-day dialogue for farmers and pastoralists on Tuesday called for non-violence among communities in Tonj and Wau States.

Community leaders who attended a three-day dialogue for farmers and pastoralists on Tuesday called for non-violence among communities in Tonj and Wau States.

The appeal was made at a dialogue organized by the Organization for Children Harmony (TOCH) with funding from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Tonj State’s Manaloor County.

During the dialogue, Waya Uchiir, the paramount chief of Jur River County warned youth and intellectuals against negative propaganda. He urged communities from both states to preach peace and love.

Ariath Mayar, the paramount chief of Tonj State, urged cattle keepers and youth leaders not to cause problems in Jur River areas of Wau State.

Local leaders also agreed on peaceful resolution of their conflicts.

Tonj and Wau communities have witnessed recurrent acts of inter-area cattle raiding and revenge fighting, displacing hundreds of people. The cattle migration season in many parts of South Sudan brings conflicts between pastoralists and farmers.
