Chiefs in Abyei area have formed a joint court in Amiet market to try different cases. The court, according to Abyei newsletter, is making efforts to solve daily problems facing traders and shoppers. The court says it has resolved more than one hundred cases ranging from adultery, theft and security threat.

The newsletter quoted the secretary of the court, Ismael Nyama Hamad saying parties take oath using either Bible or Quran before deciding their case. The institution which started its work last month is operated by law and customs qualified cadres from Ngok Dinka and Misserya. Chief Deng Monyluak Rou member of the court says people identifiers from different tribes in South Sudan are helpful to tackle crimes.

“My advice to our neighbor in Aweil, Twic state, Abyiemnhom and Warrap to send good underwriters to help us solving daily problems. This market has future in improving living of people here and South Sudan and that’s why we had peaceful coexistence agreement with Misseriya without involvement of two governments,” Deng stressed, according to the Abyei newsletter.

Traders and shoppers have appreciated the role of court in restoring lost properties and prevention escalation of minor differences into conflict which might jeopardize peaceful coexistence and mutual interests.
