Chief killed, two women abducted in Morobo: MP

Unknown armed men killed a local chief and abducted two women in Morobo County of Central Equatoria State on Friday last week, a lawmaker disclosed.

The incident occurred in Wudabi village of Lujule payam.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Elizabeth Alomo Eli, an area lawmaker identified the deceased as Santino Oliver. She said the deceased was accused of mobilizing refugees to return home after the recent formation of the unity government.

The lawmaker condemned the incident, calling on parties to the Rome Declaration to investigate the killing of the community leader.

“Our chief was killed on Friday [last week]. Even though the national unity government has been formed and people are enjoying relative peace, some non-signatories to the revitalized peace agreement are against it,” Alomo explained.

She said the whereabouts of two women abducted remains unknown and called for their immediate and unconditional release.

Morobo County’s Executive Director, Hillary Yoseke confirmed the death of the area chief, but said no arrests have been made so far.
