An executive chief identified as Mayen Arier from Aluakluak Payam of Lakes State’s Yirol West County has been arrested for killing his wife, who allegedly committed adultery with another man in their house on Monday.
Lakes State Acting Commissioner of Police Maj. Gen. Majok Machar told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the incident occurred in Billing-along Village in Aluakluak Payam when the chief followed his wife and alleged lover.
“He (Chief Arier) followed and found them in the house. What happened there is not known, and it is the investigation that will reveal it. When you get somebody in the room with your wife, what does it mean? It is adultery, and that is why the chief fought both of them,” he explained. “The strong man sneaked out and ran away, but the lady who was weak remained. So, it is adultery. When the report came, it was said that the man was found in the room, so the action took place in the absence of anybody, but after the death of the woman occurred, it became clear.”
“The police went there and found that death occurred in the house after the other man ran away, two people remained inside and one died,” Gen. Machar added.
He further revealed that the deceased’s neck was broken and that the suspect is being held at Baburzet Prison in Yirol West County.
“The investigation took place, and it was found that adultery had been committed, however, the husband of this lady was supposed to call people and report it such that the law could deal with the person while this lady was alive,” Machar stated.
Meanwhile, Daniel Laat Kon, a civil society activist in Lakes State, urged people not to take the law into their own hands.
“If you find your wife committing adultery, you should not kill her. This is something we need to condemn because we have laws and should go to the police and then to court,” he said. You need to think about your children and family of the woman because there is no agreement in marriage that if she commits a crime, then you can kill her. Does a wife also kill a husband if he commits a crime? The best way to handle such cases is through dialogue.”
