CES govt forms fact-finding committee on Wonduruba violence

Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State Juma Ali Malou has decreed the formation of a 14-member fact-finding committee to assess the security situation in Wonduruba Payam.

The army spokesman has admitted the involvement of their forces in recent clashes in the area, but blamed 'criminals' and 'LRA' for the violence, while other sources accused SPLA forces of burning and looting in Wonduruba and turning their guns against the civilian population.

The new fact-finding committee is tasked with assessing the security situation and the conditions of the civilians displaced within Wonduruba Payam and those who fled to Lainya County. Members of the committee will visit Wonduruba to establish the level of the damage and destruction of property caused by the recent clashes.

The committee is further tasked to recommend to the caretaker governor any necessary interventions, including how to support IDPs in Wonduruba Payam and Lainya County. They are to submit their findings to the caretaker governor’s office within one week from the date of the decree, which was Monday.

Lujang Thomas, the acting Wonduruba Payam director, said Tuesday evening that the number of the internally displaced people who already arrived to Lainya County have reached more than ten thousand. He said there are 1716 registered households.
