The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) is urging the presidency to hold a meeting on the operationalization of the Judicial Reforms in early January 2025.
South Sudan’s Judicial Reform Committee (JRC) on Friday presented its final and detailed report to President Salva Kiir Mayardit. It aims to strengthen judiciary reforms and improve access to justice for the citizens. Judicial Reforms are essential aspects for laying down a concrete foundation for a successful political transitional process.
CEPO Executive Director Edmund Yakani said South Sudan urgently requires to operationalize judicial reforms to gain public trust and confidence for effective participation in the political transitional process.
“The pending tasks of the R-ARCSS starting with elections, constitutional making, transitional justice even the security sector reform have a direct link with functional judicial reforms. The leadership of the country should sincerely take urgent actions for operationalization of judicial reforms as per the facts provided by the report received by the president,” Yakani said. “Timely operationalization of the proposed judicial reforms offers a great opportunity for gaining legal guidelines for making the political transitional process successful. Judicial reform absence in the public governance system was one of the underlying factors that triggered the current political instability.”
