A leading civil society organization in South Sudan’s Yei River State has condemned in strongest possible terms the rape of a minor girl and another six-year old girl in the state recently.
In a statement extended to Radio Tamazuj, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) said such an act against children is a crime according to the bill of child rights act 2008.
CEPO appealed to families of the victims not to keep silent, but seek legal assistance and report such human rights violations to the relevant government institutions so that immediate actions are taken against the perpetrators.
CEPO urged the local government in Yei to ensure that violators of children and women rights are apprehended and punished according to the country’s laws.
Separately, the civil society group welcomed the release of five women who were allegedly abducted by gunmen in Yei River County in June.
