CEPO accuses CTSAMM of not reporting sexual violence violations

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization has accused the CTSAMM, which is monitoring the ceasefire, of failing to investigate and report on violations related to sexual and gender based violence.

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization has accused the CTSAMM, which is monitoring the ceasefire, of failing to investigate and report on violations related to sexual and gender based violence.

The group noted that there have been 11 reports of violations published so far but none of them mention any violations regarding sexual or gender based violence.

“The zero reporting by CTSAMM on the committed cases of SGBV during the incidents of the permanent ceasefire and transitional security arrangement violations is wrong and unacceptable,” CEPO said.

“This act of CTSAMM for ignoring reporting on the committed SGBV incidents will empower the perpetrators of SGBV cases not feeling guilty,” the group added.

CEPO urged the monitors to report incidents of sexual and gender based violence, saying that not doing so undermines its obligation for contributing to protecting human rights.

The group appealed to the CTSAMM gender advisor to focus on documenting and reporting not only military violations, and said the AU Peace and Security Council and the Office of the UN Special Representative on Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict should intervene to strengthen CTSAMM’s reporting on sexual violence.
