The Central Equatoria state government has advised school administrators, teachers and students to take measures to improve sanitation at schools in order to avoid the spread of cholera in Juba.
Education Minister Hastin Yokwe Anisio called on schools to take the matter seriously and provide enough water to learners for use in toilets.
He also advised pupils to wash their hands using soap and clean water before touching and eating anything.
The minister added that fruits also must be well washed with safe water before they are eaten because they can be carriers of cholera bacteria.
He also said they have not yet been given information that would warrant a closure of the schools.
Meanwhile, residents of Munuki Payam in Juba County on Monday complained that the Urban Water Corporation was not supplying enough water.
A resident said that residents can get water supplied by the corporation only two times a week. He said also this water is only coming in the nighttime.
The resident appealed to government authorities and non-governmental organisations to improve water supply in response to the cholera outbreak.
