The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A), led by Abdul Wahid Nour, has denied any military or operational deals with the Sudan Armed Forces in Zalingei, Central Darfur State.
The movement’s official spokesman, Mohammed Abdel-Rahman Al-Nair, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that the movement did not fight battles alongside the army, as was reported on the Al-Sudani newspaper website last Friday.
Al-Nair said Al-Sudani Newspaper website published news alleging an alliance between the Sudan Liberation Army Movement, led by Abdel Wahid Nour.
He said the same website claimed the alliance had taken place in Zalingei, and that military units from the movement and the army in the Darfur region had intensified their operational military activity in the areas of Central Darfur and were tightening the noose on the RSF in Central Darfur.
Al-Nair dismissed the news as, “false and lacks credibility” and the ethics of the journalistic profession.
“The movement does not have any alliance with the Sudanese army and did not fight a war in Zalingei against the Rapid Support Forces. Our position on the first day of the war is clear,” Al Nair stated.
He appealed to parties in the conflict to stop the war by considering the conditions of the civilian populations subjected to grave violations.
Al-Nair said his movement adheres to the people’s aspirations for freedom and democracy.
He said stopping the war can be achieved through dialogue between Sudanese people adding that such should not exclude anyone except the National Congress Party and its facades, and building a state in which all Sudanese are equal.
Conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted on April 15, 2023. While fighting has been chiefly concentrated in the country’s capital, Khartoum, the conflict has impacted other regions. In Darfur, mass killings and displacement have led to reports of ethnic cleansing.
Over 12,000 people have been killed, with about 5.9 million displaced within the country, making it the largest internal displacement crisis globally. More than 7.2 million people have fled their homes, taking refuge inside and outside the country.
