Health officials at Zalingei Teaching Hospital have announced the arrival of a Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) delegation for a comprehensive assessment of the hospital’s current status and critical medical needs in therapeutic and support services.
Ainah Al Daw, the director of Zalingei Hospital, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that MSF aims to reconstruct the hospital and offer a full range of services. The delegation’s visit is a response to the worsening humanitarian situation in the state and appeals from the hospital to international and national humanitarian organizations.
Al Daw mentioned that the MSF delegation is actively engaging in consultations with the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities to prioritize work in various hospital departments in the upcoming phase.
“UNICEF is also in contact with us regarding services related to nutrition and medication needs in the children’s department,” added Al Daw.
Allal Musa, an activist and member of the People of Zalingei Popular Initiative to Support the Hospital, highlighted ongoing challenges in the hospital, including financial management and fuel supply.
“The arrival of UNICEF will address issues in the children’s ward. Additionally, Doctors Without Borders will offer crucial assistance after completing their current evaluation within the hospital,” explained Allal.
Omar Abdullah, a member of the Civil Support Authority of the Rapid Support Forces, noted the satisfaction of most parties with this development, except for the Zalingei People’s Initiative, which still has reservations.
He clarified that a solution is being worked out to ensure the ongoing presence of oversight bodies from the Zalingei People’s Initiative within the hospital.
Abdullah also mentioned that the Rapid Support Forces receive promises from organizations, facilitated by the Central Humanitarian Affairs Unit, to address the humanitarian situation in the state, particularly in health and food sectors, by establishing safe paths for relief operations.
