South Sudan’s government has said that the Governor of Central Bank, Othom Rago Ajak, is not under house arrest, and that his movements have not been restricted.

South Sudan’s government has said that the Governor of Central Bank, Othom Rago Ajak, is not under house arrest, and that his movements have not been restricted.

Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny told Radio Tamazuj that President Salva Kiir has not yet issued a decree offically.

„If the central bank govenror is going to be sacked, the state-owned media would announce it, so we cannot confirm a presidential decree because it has not been announced officially. Presidential decrees are announced by the state-owned media,” he said.

Ateny, who is also the presidnetial press secretary, said President Kiir has not issued any order to place Othom Rago Ajak under house arrest.

Othom’s son confirmed that their father is not under house arrest in Juba. "We  heard that the president is planning to remove him,” one of the family members said.

There have been unconfirmed reports in Juba since morning that the central bank governor was sacked without any official announcement and placed under house arrrest in Juba.
