A community-based organization has started a door-to-door sensitization and awareness campaign of the public on coronavirus and its prevention in Yambio County.

A community-based organization has started a door-to-door sensitization and awareness campaign of the public on coronavirus and its prevention in Yambio County.

Silvestre Ruati, the Director of Comedy Association for Peace and Development (CAPAD), told Radio Tamazuj last Thursday that the campaign will cover the entire county.

“The purpose is to help local communities at the grassroots who may not be able to listen to radios, access social media or other means of communication to get information about coronavirus. That is why we carry out activities and translate it into the local language,” he said.

Ruati cited lack of transport and budget constraints for field staff as the main challenges facing the organization with 30 employees.

He appealed to aid agencies to support the community-based organizations to enable them effectively create awareness on coronavirus among the locals.

South Sudan on Saturday recorded its sixth case of coronavirus.

Key symptoms of the new coronavirus include fever, dry cough and shortness of breath. The virus is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes and the droplets land in the mouths and noses of another person.

A person can also get infected with coronavirus by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or their eyes.

The most effective ways to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 are to frequently clean your hands, cover your cough with the bend of elbow or tissue, and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from people who are coughing or sneezing.
