The Western Bahr el-Ghazal State Ministry of Health has directed all companies to cease the importation of unauthorized drugs.
The ministry said the directive was effective from last Saturday, and the measure aims to ensure the quality and safety of medicines available to the public.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the State Director-General in the Ministry of Health, Dr James Ambrose Ucin, said that the companies that failed to comply with the directive would face consequences through the medical legal obligations, including losing their operation licenses.
“From now on, any company that does not adhere to the regulations set by the Drugs and Food Control Authority (DFCA), especially the foreign companies, will have their licenses revoked,” he emphasized.
The State Director for Administration and Acting Coordinator for the Medical Council, Dr Natale Masmino, acknowledged the efforts by the companies but stressed the importance of having all the documentations in order for reference. He said he expects the supervision team to visit all companies, drug stores, and pharmacies to assess their compliance.
“Unauthorized individuals without proper licenses, certificates, or medical registrations must acquire these documents to continue operating. This requirement applies to everyone, as the supervisions will fall under my responsibility,” Masmino said.
He expressed readiness to address any challenges by collaborating with the National Security Service, CID, and other relevant bodies.
“We understand that there are various agencies involved, but we’ll ensure coordination and joint decisions-making to address issues effectively. This will help us deal with individuals who inspect operations without proper authority and engage in corrupt practices,” he said.
The doctor, reassured businesses with valid registrations and documentation that they should not fear scrutiny from unauthorized individual.
“If you are officially registered and have all your documents in order, there is no need to worry. Any inquiries made by individuals will be addressed appropriately as your documentation will confirm your legitimacy,” he said.
