A cattle trader was on Sunday shot dead in Malou Pech area along the main road linking Cueibet County to Tonj South County, a local official said.

The Cueibet County Executive Director, Zachariah Mamer Thokgor, said Mathou Majak was killed on his way to Tonj South to sell his animals.

"We have sent security forces to the area where the incident occurred and the suspect is being pursued,” Thokgor told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday.

He urged the locals to help police to apprehend the suspected killer.

According to the local official, the deceased was a renowned trader who regularly bought cattle from Cueibet for sale in Tonj.

"He was a cattle trader between Cueibet and Tonj. We condemn the killing of the cattle trader,” he stressed.

Thokgor said calm has now returned in the area after the incident.
